The Extended Edition includes nine hours of new bonus features and will be available just before the December 13 theatrical release of the second film of the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.Īlso, following what fans received in the LOTR extended edition dvds, there will be nearly nine hours of special features, audio commentary with Peter Jackson and Philippa Boyens and the Appendices, a multi-part documentary that focuses on the many various aspects of the film. Like with Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy these will become the definitive versions for true fans. The extended version is a 5-disc set that includes 13 minutes of extra footage and extended scenes. “It’s exciting to present this expanded and enriched version of ‘An Unexpected Journey’ to allow fans to fully immerse themselves in the movie, before seeing the second part of the trilogy.”
